League of Legends is one of the first MOBA (Multiplayer Online Battle Arena) titles, based on the popular Warcraft mod DotA. Offering players a unique approach to PvP combat, League of Legends has been praised by critics all over and is considered to be one of the most popular games on the competitive gaming circuit.

Unlike other online games, League of Legends doesn't restrict you to playing 1 type of character, you get to create a Summoner and choose a simple avatar image but you don't play as the Summoner directly. Summoners have the ability to control Champions and at the start of each game, you get to choose which one you will control for that particular match. Each Champion is totally unique, with individual abilities and skills that get stronger as you level during the match. The game features over 80 different Champions to choose from so whatever your preferred strategy, there's a big selection.

When you play in a League of Legends match your Champion gains experience, earning you the choice of what abilities you can unlock or upgrade, at the end of the match this resets back to default, this means every match begins with players on an even playing ground, offering fair PvP that's rare in today's gear driven MMORPG PvP titles. As your Summoner levels, from experience gained at the end of each fight, you can purchase and equip runes that give you small buffs such as increased critical hit rate, these buffs apply to any Champions you play and are the only things that you carry into your next battle.

The gear system in LoL is also unique, during games you earn Gold for killing enemy minions and player characters, this gold can be used to purchase a number of items and pieces of equipment. Players have the choice of over 100 items, all of which are separated into categories such as Mana Regen, Critical Hit Chance, Increased Damage and Defense Buffs. This strategical system allows skilled players to create their own builds, so you may be fighting the same Champion as you've chosen, but both can be unique in regards to stats, strengths and weaknesses.
