League Of Legends Leading The Way For Micro-Transactions
According to new figures released to PCGamer by Riot Games, the critically acclaimed and award-winning MOBA game, League of Legends, is rapidly closing in on the one billion dollar mark for total revenue earned through the in-game micro-transaction sales. This is a huge increase on last years figures and puts League of Legends ahead of the pack, including last years earnings champions, CrossFire.League of Legends pulled in an estimated $964 million between January and September of this year, according to SuperData research (via VentureBeat), making the magical $1 billion mark almost a sure thing. And it's not alone: Last year's first-place finisher, the military FPS CrossFire, is at $897 million, Nexon's Dungeon Fighter Online is sitting at $891 million, and World of Warcraft has brought in $728 million. All them have a good shot at making it over the hump. The stats, originally released on Venture Beat, show League of Legends dominating with a 11.9% share in the total revenue of the MMO world. How does it feel to earn the most revenue in the online gaming space with a balanced, aesthetic and widely accepted micro-transactions store without any pay-to-win elements? I bet it feels good.
