Cross Fire, a game developed by Z8Games and released in 2009, is a 3D first person shooter set in a modern world setting. The game looks very much as the original Counter Strike. Cross Fire features 4 game modes in which teams can face each other: Team Death Match, Search and Destroy, Elimination and Ghost Mode. Each mode has a special combat system and different rules.

Team Death Match – The team which gets the most kills in a certain amount of time or gets the pre-set amount of kills before the opposite team, wins. Players are respawned soon after they die.

Search and Destroy – One team is responsible with planting bombs, more exactly C4, in specific spots and preventing the other team from defusing them. Killing all members of the opposite team also counts as a win. Players are unable to respawn until the end of the round.

Elimination – In this mode each team must kill all the members of the opposite team. The team that wins a predetermined number of rounds wins the game.

Ghost Mode – In this mode one team plays as the ghosts. The members of this team are invisible when standing still and only translucent while moving. They can only use knives, but the damage from one hit is fatal. The mode is also round based and players are unable to respawn until the round is over.

Up to 16 players can participate in a Cross Fire game mode.

Players can gain ranks, earn in-game currency which can be used for buying new guns, and keep track of their kill/death and win/loss statistic. They can choose from several maps, 2 to 5 maps per mode, and a variety of weapons: 16 main weapons, 3 kinds of grenades and 3 types of pistols. Also players can start with one of the 2 featured characters and buy 3 more from the shop.

Cross Fire can be considered to be repetitive, but the fast paced gameplay fully compensates for it.
