The latest free to play MMO title from Games Campus thrusts players into the heat of World War II piloting some of the most iconic tanks from the era. The game offers 2 distinct environments to play in, an avatar based environment where you collect quests, buy new gear and converse with others players and the battlefield, where you and your tank will try to rain destruction on your enemies.
Although you pilot a tank, you still get to design an avatar in typical MMORPG fashion. When you create your character you get to choose from 3 unique appearances all of which are given the same base attributes. Once you progress through the tutorial and gain experience points, you can choose where to distribute your ability points and also choose which nation you want to align yourself with. As you progress further you can branch into skill trees that are separated into 5 categories, each category will strengthen both your avatar and your tank in specific ways.
Tank Ace gives you the choice of playing 4 unique game modes focusing on both PvP and PvE content. The PvP options are Annihilation & Occupation or Occupational War, both are very similar in terms of objectives but one is available only to mercenaries (Players that choose not to align with a nation) while the other is exclusive to players belonging to a nation. The PvE options are Mission and Challenge, one being pre-determined missions with typical objective based mechanics while the other is player created objectives.
Tank Ace does a great job of creating a WWII like atmosphere, unlike other tank MMO titles, other A.I units are also on the battlefield. You will come across enemy infantry and gun emplacements as well as seeing regular action in the skies above with spitfire and other famous planes patrolling the skies.
You get many options to improve your tank, with a total of 14 equipment slots ranging from different types of turret and body armor to mines and ammo types creating for many different options depending on your play style. The game is free to play but does feature micro transactions using Games Campus' typical item mall based system.
