Outer Galaxies is a science-fiction based, browser MMORPG that thrusts players into epic battles between two rival federations in the darkest corners of space. Each player that joins the battle has to choose which federation they want to represent, with each offering different options and visual approaches. Once players have pledged their allegiance to a particular federation they must select an avatar and username. There's quite a selection of avatars, with both male and female available, so players should be able to find one that appeals to their individual taste.

Outer Galaxies provides players with one of the most intense space-based combat systems available in a browser-based MMO title. Players can use either their arrow keys or mouse to move, offering complete freedom of controls during combat. Players can find themselves in difficult combat situations against dozens of enemy ships, each with their own loadout of unique weapons and abilities. Using a keen eye and tactical approach skilled players will be able to dispatch of their foes quickly and reap the rewards left behind in the rubble. Players can obtain a variety of exciting items from combat such as brand new weapons or equipment for your ship.

Another popular past time in Outer Galaxies is the mining system. Players must search out asteroid belts filled with rare and expensive materials. There's a decent selection of minerals that players can process from mining these asteroids, earning currency and experience points to progress through the game.

New players are introduced to the game via an easy to follow tutorial and NPC escort. The tutorial introduces players to both the combat and mining system with on-screen prompts to ensure players can understand the controls and basic functions of their ship. Outer Galaxies doesn't really compare to the big boys of the MMO genre, such as Eve Online, but it does hold its own in regards to browser gaming.
