WarMage Battlegrounds is a free to play, browser-based MMO that has a heavy focus on tactics, unit knowledge and strategy. Unlike most browser titles in this genre, it doesn't focus on base building and resource management, instead it offers 2-4 player competitive battles using an in-depth turn-based system.

There are a number of races available to select as your WarMage, each race has unique attributes and a Squad Effect that benefits the units that battle alongside your WarMage. These effects vary from extra experience points to extra damage and defense. The races are as follows:

Dragonkin
Sinta
Dwarf
Giant
Human
Minotaur
Elf

During combat players are able to utilize a number of systems to aid them in battle. The WarMage's themselves have unique abilities and powers, such as devastating AoE attacks or even abilities that allow them to transform into dragons. As well as WarMage's, players may also use various spells from spell cards, there are dozens of cards available, some can heal your units, others can cause direct damage to your opponents.

Although a WarMage is a very powerful unit, you won't be able to defeat your enemies without allies. You're given several units at the start but you can also purchase more from the store, this allows you to construct an army to compliment your WarMage and play-style. Those with an offensive, melee WarMage may want to take range damage such as Spearmasters or Archers, those with ranged WarMage's may choose to select tank type units such as the Blademaster. Each unit is specific to each race, although some share similar abilities and stats, all have a unique appearance and at least 1 ability unique to that race.

There is a large selection of maps available for both 1v1 and 2v2, each with their own terrain and strategical points. Depending on the map, players may get certain benefits such as increase mana regen rate, this is to reduce the amount of turns players use to recover, allowing for fluid, fast-paced combat.
