Tyrant is a free to play browser game published and developed by Kongregate, one of the largest gaming portals on the internet, consisting of over 50,000 unique titles. Tyrant is a science fiction, military themed card battle game where players attempt to protect a number of territories under vicious assault from their enemies.

As with most Tactical Card Games (TCG), Tyrant's main focus is the combat system. Players must first choose their Commander from a selection of 2, the only differences being gender and appearance. The Commander card acts as a players hitpoints, if that card is killed in battle, it's over. Players can take up to 10 cards into battle, consisting of damage, support and defensive cards. Each card is accompanied by a short description, as well as basic details such as attack and hitpoints. Players must strategically place their cards on the battlefield to protect their Commander, while also trying to destroy their opponents card and hopefully, their Commander. There are a large variety of cards available, giving players plenty of opportunity to customize their deck. Cards are obtained from completing quests or by purchasing booster packs from the store. New Commanders can also be purchased, some with great effects such as boosting the damage of allied cards.

The game includes an array of other features such as an in-depth achievement system where players must perform difficult tasks in order to gain extra rewards in the form of experience points and cash. Other features include high level raid content, dozens of maps to conquer and some great socializing features. Players can earn reputation with both AI and player controlled factions. Player controlled factions work in a similar way to guilds where players can play together and share tips and information.

The game is available as a free MMORPG game and doesn't feature an item mall or micro transactions.
