Chronicles Of Merlin: Rift In Time is a browser based RTS title set in the mystical age of Merlin and Camelot. The game is host to many unique features, most notably the Chapter system. Unlike other MMORTS titles that offer complete freedom from the start, Chronicles of Merlin presents chapter like challenges in stages, allowing players to progress at a steady pace.

When you begin you're able to select from 5 different characters to play as, Sansa, Rickon, Brandon, Arya and Jon. . Once you've chosen your character and name you then get chance to recruit your first Hero. Heroes are unique units that possess special abilities and traits, and are far stronger than any other individual unit in your army. Having chosen your character and Hero, you're then asked to select a castle you wish to reclaim from bandits, you can choose any you want, the only real differences are cosmetic. The tutorial follows, providing you with basic help and information to get you started.

The Hero system is one of the most exciting aspects of Chronicles of Merlin, each Hero can be trained at your Tower of Trials and in turn, will increase in overall level and gain more stats and abilities. You can also purchase items for your Hero at your Armory, these include weapons and armor as well as mounts and other unique items. Any item you purchase, or obtain in battle, can be upgraded. Each upgrade will increase the power and rarity of the item, although the higher the quality the more chance it has to fail, which will destroy the item.

The combat in Chronicles Of Merlin: Rift In Time is very basic, players choose which Hero to march into battle and they will automatically take the assigned units with them. Once in battle a short cut-scene occurs where you watch your soldiers battle with the enemy, the player doesn't have any input once the battle has started so it's just a matter of waiting and hoping. Each time you enter combat you use a Banner, you have a limited amount and once they run out, you can no longer challenge enemies to a fight. You can purchase more Banners at the store or wait for them to recharge at a rate of 1 per hour.
