Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn Struggles To Crawl From The Ashes
Final Fantasy XIV was a complete failure when it launched 3 years ago but it appears its successor, Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn, has not managed to do any better. The game officially launched last Tuesday, August 27th, and despite the massive hype surrounding the new launch, it again has caused players many problems.
The game itself has been treated to a warm reception by players and critics alike, at least by those that are actually able to get into the game to experience it. For a disturbingly large number of players though, their journey through Eorzea has yet to begin. Thousands have been met with errors and patching issues as fans flooded the servers on day 1. Since then Square Enix have promised to address the problem, even cancelling current digital purchases until the server issues have been resolved.
Whether or not they can fix it in time for the weekend has yet to be seen, but hopefully they can recover from yet another poor MMO launch.

It’s no wonder people don’t follow this site. It’s a recently released mmo. Just like every other mmo it’s going to have server issues…. Goodness whoever published this as news needs to be drug out into the streets and shot.
Show me another MMORPG game that launches twice in 3 years after the original launch was WIDELY considered to be abysmal. Even the developers themselves apologized for the state of the game and servers at launch. 3 years later they launch the game again, only to be met with server problems. Hundreds of beta participants begged for wider access to the beta, purely to avoid this sort of problem. You can blindly defend it all you want, the facts are there.
Dry your running nose captain it will get fixed like all other mmos. SE most be shocked by how many picked it up. i agree who ever wrote this is off crying he or she can’t get on it.
I wrote it…lol Yes it will get fixed, does that make things any better for those that pre-ordered or purchased on release day only to find they couldn’t play? You have to remember, FF in its core is not an MMO franchise. Many FF fans are playing an MMO for the first time with FFXIV and they don’t expect this kind of thing on launch day.
I’m a seasoned MMO gamer so I wasn’t expecting anything different. Rule of thumb, don’t buy a new MMO until 2-4 weeks after release I can’t wait to get into the game, but that doesn’t stop the fact Square Enix are not doing the best of job delivering their second round of promises.
Companies will estimate sales, costs, etc based on what the markets doing and any historical data they may have access too. This then generates a cost curve business plan. They will open funds according to the plan and hope success is equal to what they planned. You can’t expect A) a plan that decides to dump waaay more money on resources just because. And B) you can’t blame square for erroring on the safe side with investments. Why do most mmos start light on the server side? Cuz it’s not free and they truly don’t know how much they will need until it goes live.
SE botched the launch of the game for sure. Early Access was Beta Phase 5. I have had a really difficult time of getting into the game, but if you try long enough, you’ll get in. It sucks that it’s half-broken, but the game is fantastic.
And standing behind other MMO launch failures to justify this one is faulty logic. SE knew what the demand would be. Preorders + legacy accounts = server demand for Early Access, and you have to go far above that number for the launch and moving forward. They couldn’t even get the Early Access to function properly. Stop defending them. They messed it up, and they messed it up thoroughly!
What a joke of an article
