Guild Wars 2 64-Bit Game Client On The Way
Today saw ArenaNet's Colin Johanson take to Reddit to invite players to help test the upcoming 64-bit game client for the award-winning MMORPG game, Guild Wars 2. The Guild Wars 2 community have been asked to help test a new 64-bit client, asking for feedback on any bugs and stability problems that may occur. What are the benefits over the 32-bit client? 64-bit applications have a significantly higher limit on how much memory they are able to use compared to 32-bit applications. Due to this, the main benefit is significantly less “out of memory” crashes. What is the 64-bit client? It is an alternative to the 32-bit client currently used to play the game. Aside from some technical details, the two are identical in functionality. The release of the 64-bit client won't have any real impact on the average player but it will give those with 64-bit systems a more stable client with access to more memory, making "out of memory" crashes less often.
