Notch Confirms Microsoft Acquisition Of Mojang
It appears the rumors that surfaced last week are indeed tree as the founder of Mojang, Notch, today confirmed officially that Microsoft will be purchasing the independent development studio for a staggering $2.5 billion. The Head of the Xbox Division with Microsoft, Phil Spencer, also released a statement today, confirming the deal from Microsoft's end."Minecraft adds diversity to our game portfolio and helps us reach new gamers across multiple platforms," says Xbox chief Phil Spencer. "Gaming is the top activity across devices and we see great potential to continue to grow the Minecraft community and nurture the franchise. That is why we plan to continue to make Minecraft available across platforms – including iOS, Android and PlayStation, in addition to Xbox and PC."This is a massive announcement for Minecraft and Xbox fans. Although we do not expect the game to become exclusive to Microsoft's platforms, it's clearly an opportunity to include features and DLC that won't necessarily be available on other platforms.
