LEGO Minifigures Online Dropping Subscription Model
Funcom, developers of Age of Conan: Unchained and LEGO Minifigures Online, today announced an upcoming change in the revenue model for the latter as the world of Minifigures is set to drop the pay-to-play subscription model in favor of a more appealing buy-to-play model. The change in payment options comes as no surprise as the game failed to make a serious impact under the pay-to-play model but later this Summer LEGO Minifigures Online will be buy-to-play on PC, Mac, Linux, Android and iOS, all featured in the impressive cross-platform play options."The initial run on PC has been very valuable for us and we have learned a great many things about the game and its audience," says Funcom CEO, Rui Casais. "No doubt free-to-play can be a great offering, but it is not necessarily the best option for any game. The model in itself can be challenging with a young audience, and we also saw that it had a detrimental effect on gameplay and the kids' enjoyment of the game. As a result, we are taking the necessary steps needed to make sure we unlock the full potential of LEGO® Minifigures Online and make it an enjoyable experience for LEGO fans of all ages."
