ArenaNet and their Chinese publishing partners KongZhong today calmed the fears of many as they announce that Guild Wars 2 will stick with the free-to-play revenue model when it's released in China. Like the European and American version players will have to purchase the original client but the same revenue model will apply, so no monthly subscription will be required.
“Chinese players will get the same premium MMO gaming experience that Guild Wars 2 players in North America and Europe enjoy, with consistent and timely content updates,” said Mike O'Brien, president and co-founder of ArenaNet. "Guild Wars 2 China will be synchronized with the worldwide version of the game."
It's exciting news ahead of the March 11th closed beta date for China. Guild Wars 2 quickly became the fastest selling MMO in the West after its launch and all signs point to similar success in the East.
