In a recent announcement from Paramount Entertainment, details emerged about a new joint venture with developers Kabam that would involve both companies working together to create an MMO style game based on the popular Godfather franchise. The internet is flooded with free to play browser based gangster titles, will slapping a popular label on it make any difference?
The Godfather: Five Families is based 10 years before the original movie and follows the lives of five mafia groups. There's limited information available at the moment and the only real hint given was that the game will feature MMO style mechanics. Players will be able to fight for control of areas in New York City which will increase their rank and reputation. They also mentioned that players will be able to switch between the five families to simulate the typical back-stabbing and rivalries seen in most mafia based media.
The open beta is currently in full swing with the game expected to launch later this year.
