DC Universe Online Population Explodes
DC Universe is one of the latest AAA MMORPG games to adapt a free to play model and a recent announcement from Smedley on his Twitter account suggests that it was the right move. Within days of the game converting to the free to play model, John Smedley announced on Twitter that the PC version of the game had an increase of 120,000 active players, 4x what was the norm before the switch.
The game is quickly becoming one of the biggest free to play success stories of recent years as the latest announcement suggests that the game has now increased its player base over 1000x what it was previously. Sadly, it’s not a complete success story as the game is now riddled with issues such as server lag and long queue times. Sony Online Entertainment have made several announcements to reassure players that they are working on fixing the issues as soon as possible, I’ll leave you with a final comment from Mr. Smedley
“We are working on the lag. Very bluntly this has been a wee bit more successful than we planned on. Sorry”
