Tribes: Ascend is a sci-fi based FPS title that is said to bring the next generation of FPS mechanics to the MMO market. The game has already been flooded with praise and awards, despite the fact it has yet to be released.

The game offers total freedom of movement, something we've yet to see in an MMO title. Players are able to ride vehicles such as tanks and bikes as well as aerial vehicles and even use a jet pack. These varied forms of travel allow for intense combat situations where even the aerial units can be attacked by regular infantry. As is typical with MMO games, Tribes: Ascend also offers in-depth character progression, allowing players to choose new weapons, abilities and perks for their character.

You can choose from a variety of different classes, similar to other premium based FPS titles. Whether you're into heavy weapons, a typical assault rifle or you like to take apart your enemy from afar, there's a class for everyone and each class has a unique progression path and various options along the way.

Currently the game features 2 distinct game modes, Capture the Flag and Rabbit. CTF is self explanatory for anyone familiar with the genre, Rabbit is basically a fresh approach to the VIP game modes seen on Counter Strike and other popular shooter titles. New game modes will be included after launch but the exact details of these modes are unknown.

Players have the option of purchasing a VIP Starter package for $29.99. This starter package includes 3,000 Tribes Gold, early access to beta and a lifetime of VIP status. Being a VIP will give you priority login, if the servers get busy and will also allow you to earn exp and gold at an increased rate. The game will be free to play and is set to launch Q1 2012.
