Mech Rage is a free to play MMORTS game with a difference, instead of the usual sword fighters and horsemen, you control an army of technologically advanced Mech Units, equipped with everything from flame throwers to heavy machine guns.

Instead of the traditional Hero approach that most MMORTS titles have, Mech Rage uses a Commander system which is similar in many ways but also offers a few extra fixtures that are commonly seen in most MMORPG character development systems. Your Commander will take control of your army, acting as a general, and will gain more experience winning battles and being assigned more troops. As you earn more experience your Commander will become stronger, be able to command a larger army, and unlock more equipment slots. Equipment comes in 3 categories, defensive, offensive and accessory, with each item offering specific bonuses to your Commander.

Base building uses the typical pre-determined base slots, allowing you to choose what buildings you construct but you're only able to place them in slots assigned by the game. This restricts on expansion, which is different to most MMORTS titles, but it allows you to focus more on building your army of Mech Warriors and taking them off to war.

The game is set in a fully real-time environment, meaning that every base you see is occupied by an enemy, or an Alliance member. Alliances are the guilds of Mech Rage, players come together to overcome stronger opponents, or group up for PvE combat to earn greater rewards and suffer fewer casualties.
