Evony II is a 2D strategy browser MMO with a medieval setting. The game was originally launched in 2009 and it grew pretty fast through aggressive marketing and advertising on one end and classic, yet polished game elements at the other end.
In Evony II players must gather resources of which there are four in the game, build their city, keep the population happy and in general manage this urban universe in a tycoon-like fashion. However, this is not the ultimate goal of the game, but that that of conquering the world. In order to do that players must address military and diplomatic issues: build troops, make alliances and eventually make war against neighboring cities.
The game’s micro-transaction system is pretty common, but since this is at its core a PvP oriented game, the offers of the in-game store tend to make huge difference in a conflict. With the help of the game’s currency called “cent” players can ignore the building time of a new construction, they can instantly gain extra resources and in general perform actions which gives the upper hand.
Evony II doesn’t reinvent bounders for the genre, but manages to do a nice work with the classic browser based strategy MMO recipe. The game looks good, is entertaining, and doesn’t take a lot of time to understand or play. Its only flaw is related to “the dark side” of the free-to-play business model, a side unfortunately unavoidable especially for a browser MMO.

an okay game…..when your starting out. new players get a 7 day beginner protection period, which can end if you upgrade your town hall to a point.
from then on, there is nothing to prevent you from being robbed of everything in you city or losing your city by stronger players.
i hate this game i guarrentee that even if you have a stong allience there will stll be someone stronger than you and they will atack you and take all of youre resources and keep on doing it until you realise its a complete waste of time……..
so basicly this game is only fun to the top top top players of this game
I agree with Erik; this game is primarily built for people who have got money to spend on it. Too bad too; they had a great concept.
I hate this game..it is so bad..only for the rich kids with a big credit card..
It never ceases to amaze me how bad some strategists are at strategic thinking. The makers of this game clearly didnt think this game idea through.
Small fish eats tiny fish
Medium fish eats small fish
Big fish eats medium fish
Huge fish eats big fish
This is the strategis depth they have ended up with.
I rate this game 2 out of ten. Its gets its two points for
1. A good starting idea (with regard to gameplay even though their ruleset stuffs it up completely).
2. Somebody must be making some money on this game considering the amount of advertising i see for it (ITS EVERYWHERE).
You don’t need to spend a lot of money, if you are willing to spend a lot of time. I made it up to rank #5 on my server (over 80,000 players initially) and I only ever spent $10 on the game.
You don’t lose much if your smart, its fun in a good alliance. Its for players who have over several hours each day…
I played this game for about one year….just insane…completely consuming. I started as a recruit in a small alliance in original server 5…our group jumped to a new server…dominated one section of the server then evony combined 5 servers and we had to fight again for dominance. We had almost always the max ppl (100) in out alliance and emerged as the owners of a province. Since the game is always going you needed to be in a good alliance or you would find yourself devoured in the few hours you might be off the game. I had to quit because i was getting on the game morning, noon, night….when you get large and have many troops you have a constant struggle for resources……dont play this game unless you intend to spent a LOT of time online.
