Inspired by the TV series, Battles Galactica Online makes for a very good browser-based game. It was developed and published by Bigpoint and Artplant, released for open beta on February 11, 2011. The fans of the series looking for a complex plot and storyline will be quite disappointed however. The game doesn’t focus on storytelling and without a decent amount of information to back the game events up, throws the player right in the middle of the war raging between Humans and Cylons. The player will be able to choose from the two factions available: the Humans whose primary objective is finding a new home-planet and the Cylons, intelligent, evolving robots which now hunt their creators, the humans.

After the players choose the faction, the character customization will allow them to tweak their avatars by adjusting body parts, adding battle marks and tattoos. Afterwards the player will have to decide what battle ship to control. Note that ship control is smooth, but might require an accommodation time.

Each faction has three different ships to choose from:

Humans

Colonial Viper - ship which matches the speed, agility and firepower of the Cylon Raider

Colonial Raptor – a ship which can be used for both offensive and defensive missions.

Rhino - a highly armored strike craft which can be upgraded with more armor and hull systems adding a bonus of defense to it.

Cylons

Cylon Raider – designed to be sleek and deadly, it is the primary Interceptor of the Cylons. It chases down the target with speed and agility.

Cylon Heavy Raider – a battle craft capable of disrupting enemy systems combining viral attacks with jamming.

Marauder – an assault ship with far greater protection that the other Cylon ships.

After making these decisions the player will pick up important tasks (quests) from key characters of their factions. Completing them results in experience and loot gain.

Battlestar Galactica Online comes as a promising game with a rewarding flight and combat system, but with no actual big plot to support its gameplay.
