Atlantica Online is arguably one of the most unique and innovative MMORPG games released in recent years. Blending a mix of both MMORPG and MMORTS mechanics, Atlantica Online offers an experience quite fresh to the free to play market.

As with most MMO games, you get to choose your main characters class and abilities, but unique to Atlantica Online is the Mercenary system. As you level and progress you're able to recruit extra mercenaries (That are very similar to main character classes) that join your battle squad and help you defeat a large array of enemy monsters. Rather than your typical MMO combat, Atlantica Online offers an RTS approach very similar to Final Fantasy's ATB system in the earlier titles.

The combat system allows for great Player VS Player (PvP) features, offering an arena style battle system where players can freely join an instanced PvP battle from almost anywhere in the game world. You can strengthen your PvP team by recruiting stronger mercenaries and crafting powerful items from one of the 34 different crafting skills available to players.

Guilds are also heavily featured, with the main focus on territory control. Guilds are able to take control over towns giving them the responsibility to control the towns security, politics, culture, health and even construction planning. As your Guild's town grows in power, you can become a Nation, selecting a King and continuing to grow in power or forge relations with other Nations to defend your town against other Nations attacks.

Another nice touch to Atlantica Online is the Mentor system. The Mentor system allows for higher level players to select lower level players for an apprentice. The Mentor is rewarded with experience, gold and items as the apprentice levels and progresses and a lot of players will offer payment to become their apprentice offering a wealth of information and advice from experienced players to even the greenest of newbies.
