Age of Empires Online is the latest installment in one of the biggest RTS franchises of all time. The game offers players the choice of playing 1 of 4 civilizations, including the Greeks, Celtics, Egyptians and Persians. Each civilization has a unique capital city as well as civilization specific buildings, units and items.

Age of Empires is a tried and tested RTS game that has proven popular time after time, the MMO has all the regular features that have kept fans interested over the years and a few extra ones to sweeten the deal. You're able to build your empire from the ground up, starting with little more than a farm and a few soldiers armed with pitchforks, as you progress you can build castles, expand your territories train vast armies.

Crafting takes a unique approach, instead of the typical RTS upgrade system seen in many top RTS titles, Age of Empires Online adapted a new method of upgrading technologies via crafting. You can build several Craft Halls, all with a specific area of research and upgrades, which allows the player to focus on upgrading certain units or buildings that suit their play style. It's a hybrid between MMORPG crafting and typical RTS unit upgrade management, creating a new way of improving your assets.

Although the game is free to play, it does utilize the use of micro transactions in the form of Booster Packs. There are currently two planned Booster Pack's on their website, the Defense of Crete Pack and the Skirmish Hall Pack. The Defense of Crete allows players to defend the tiny island of Crete against never ending waves of enemies, with the possibility of collecting rare rewards and equipment from their fallen enemies. The Skirmish Hall Pack is proving to be the most popular with the community, it allows players to create their very own scenario controlling everything from enemy unit type and numbers to the amount of resources you begin with, this creates almost endless possibilities and many hours of gameplay.
