Uncharted Waters Online is a Free MMORPG developed by TECMO KOEI that brings the MMORPG genre to the high seas. A free to play game that has been popular since the early 1990's, Uncharted Waters thrusts players into an age of piracy and trade.

Uncharted Waters offers 2 very distinct methods of exploration and combat, you can sail on your ship and fight against other sea dwelling enemies or you can take the fight to the land and run around as you would in a typical MMORPG. In essence, this allows you to evolve two totally separate systems, you can buy new gear and level your main character while buying better ships and cannons or even upgrading your crew. These separate mechanics really add depth to combat as you can choose to specialize in close quarters or keep at a distance attacking with your cannons, you can choose what approach to take based on equipment or personal preference, this allows for a lot of variation with every fight.

The PvP system is also quite extensive allowing players to fight each other and plunder the losers loot, this creates a very "dog eat dog" world where players can have their hopes smashed in a matter of minutes, to combat this people travel in large groups when transporting valuable materials, creating a very realistic trade route routine that would have been common in the era.

Regional trading is one of the best features about UWO, as you travel the seven sea's you can visit ports and cities and barter for various items and goods. You can then take your cargo to another region of the world and sell the items for more gold, this creates a thriving economy but it's not all easy work as pirates will attempt to stop you and plunder your ship. Luckily you can be armed with cannons and a shiny blade which can make short work of most NPC units that try to stop you on your way to unknown riches.
