When Is Someone Going To Make The Next Big Step In The MMO Market?
Despite the continued popularity of many of today's top MMO titles there are a large number of MMO gamers that still continue to move from game to game as they hope to discover a place to call home. For some people this is chasing the emotions and experiences provided by MMO games of yesteryear but for others, as a whole new generation of MMO gamers come into the fray, that search is something different entirely. Many people find the social and competitive aspect of MMO gaming to be incredibly appealing but not necessarily the format that these current experiences are available in. As a player that enjoys the social element of MMO gaming and occasionally the PvP and competitive aspects, I find myself struggling to find a genre that fits my personal desires from MMO gaming. The MOBA genre is easily the hottest property in the MMO industry today but the competitive elements of the game are far too hardcore for many players and the community, well, the toxicity of the MOBA world speaks for itself. MMORPG's have been able to nurture far more immersive and involved communities but the traditionally slow-paced and computer-friendly approach to these titles often leaves the competitive part of me left wanting. Sure, some can say that PvP is a competitive element, which is true to a certain degree, but with skill cooldowns, level differences, gear buffs etc - it soon just becomes a matter of numbers over that of an actual players ability. So where does that leave me? The sporting aspect of MMO gaming is all but non-existent for the most part, free MMOFPS games lack even the foundations of a community, and the RTS scene is dominated by cookie cutter games that serve little purpose outside of being a milked to death cash cow. I want a developer to come forward with something unique. An engaging experience that promotes community-based features alongside balanced, and skill-based competitive game play that doesn't revolve around abusing your opponents into submission. I realize many developers promise these exact features but rarely do they deliver. Do you consider yourself an MMO hobo? Have you found a place to call home or are you still trying to relive the high of your last fantastic MMO experience? Let us know below.Leave a comment
