The Wrestling Game – Review
The Wrestling Game is arguably one of the most unique and innovative MMORPG projects featured on xmmorpg. The Wrestling Game combines browser-based images with text-based mechanics to provide players with a unique wrestling experience, offering players the thrill of WWE combat and politics. The Wrestling Game falls into the E-Fed category, short for electronic federation, a new breed of MMO that appeared a number of years ago and tried to offer players a realistic, personalized wrestling experience. The majority of them were poorly created forum or email games but one emerged as a champion among them all, The Wrestling Game, and it’s still going strong today with over 50,000 registered players.
The Wrestling Game offers some of the most extensive character creation options ever seen in a free browser-based game. First of all you must choose your wrestler type from the following options, Strength, Technique, Speed, Resistance and Balanced. Each type can be compared to popular wrestlers in today’s big federations such as Big Show representing the Strength category and Rey Mysterio representing the Speed category. Once you’ve chosen your wrestler type you begin the tutorial. You can skip the tutorial at any time but you are given three days premium membership if you complete it, I highly advise it as the benefits are huge and it only takes a few minutes.
As your wrestler increases in level you earn points that can improve your base stats, for each base stat point you’re also rewarded with class points, that can also be spent to improve your wrestler by upgrading skills. You can also purchase individual moves when you level your wrestler, creating your own arsenal of deadly abilities. Moves are separated into categories such as groggy opponent or while running, you can then choose moves for each situation your wrestler may face. Each move can also be leveled individually by paying the trainer to increase it, adding more power and damage to any skill you wish to use.
Once you’ve completed the basic aspects of the tutorial you get to fight in a one fall match against any opponent. The combat system is automated, using a wall of text that continues as the match progresses. Although there’s a lack of any 3D animations or art, the text is highly descriptive and shares many common sayings and scenarios with modern day real-life wrestling. The fights can take some time but players can skip to the final result if they wish.
One of the greatest features of The Wrestling Game that’s not covered in the tutorial is the ability to create your own taunts, trademark and finishing moves. You can name your ability, choose how it activates and even personally write the text that’s displayed in the combat logs. You’re able to choose the minimum amount of damage each ability causes, as well as the maximum and you can also add various added effects such as bleeding, pin or submission. You must gain adrenaline during a match to perform your finisher and the more powerful the ability, the more adrenaline is required, creating a totally customizable, yet balanced, custom move creator.
Overall, The Wrestling Game is easily the best game of its type available on the internet. Offering an authentic, customizable wrestling experience to wrestling fans across the globe.
