The Winners Of E3 2014 Are The Same As Every Year, It’s Us
While E3 is still in full swing the biggest names have already emptied their arsenal of highly anticipated announcements and as predictable as the sun rising tomorrow, people are now debating who "won" this years E3 show. Well, I'll let you in on a little secret. We won, again. Every year the biggest names in gaming pull out all the stops to wow the gaming world at E3. Some opt to announce their next biggest game, others continue to push previously released titles and some deliver events and cosplay sure to bring a smile to anyone's face. But do you know what all of this has in common? Every single element of E3 is designed and executed for me, you, us - the gaming world. This year saw the tradition continue as the likes of Electronic Arts, Ubisoft and Activision all announced some of the most exciting content ever conceived this generation but why do all the "big websites" feel the need to declare a false winner? How does one gauge who wins E3? Sure, Activision releasing more details on the next Call of Duty is a massive announcement, as is Ubisoft releasing more information on Assassin's Creed Unity and Far Cry 4. However, it is never the developers that are hailed as the victors, it's the consoles. If you haven't already you're likely to see dozens of headlines claiming Sony or Microsoft "won" E3, and also a few people clambering to the hope that the Wii U will finally get what it deserves, but how do they justify announcing a winner when the interest of the announcements at E3 is entirely different based on the individual. Sure, it's great that Sony or Microsoft announce that next big console exclusive but if a certain gamer doesn't like that platform or has no interest in that game, it's as good as someone announcing yet another Flappy Birds clone that people don't really care about. The winners of this years E3 are the same as they have been every year since it was conceived. It's us, the gaming audience. Whether you love or loathe consoles, whether you're a hardcore FPS player or a casual strategist, there's always something for everyone. So while many articles will clamber for hits as they pledge their allegiance to a specific brand or console, often belittling the other in the process, we'd like to take a minute to thank all involved for yet another incredibly exciting E3 event and there's still more to come!Leave a comment
