The Godfather Five Families – Review
Arguably one of the most iconic gangster franchises of all time, The Godfather Five Families is based on the infamous world of the Godfather. The game is based in 1935, roughly 10 years before the setting of the original Godfather movie, in a crime stricken New York where the famous Five Families are fighting for control. Your character plays the role of a father's dead offspring, leaving his estate and reputation in your hands. Your first real action in the world of The Godfather Five Families, is to pledge your allegiance to 1 of the 5 families. The available choices are Corleone, Stracci, Cuneo, Barzini, Tattaglia, each family has their own agenda and ideologies. The obvious choice for most players is the highly respected Corleone family, which is who I chose to represent for this new player experience review. The beginning of the game is quite refreshing, I've played dozens of browser MMORPG games and so many of them leave you with nothing to do after 10 minutes of playing, either due to lack of resources or waiting for overly long construction times. The Godfather Five Families gives you a little boost at the start, you're given a small gift package that includes a few items to help you on your way, after all, your estate has just been burned to the ground and your reputation along with it. These starting items, combined with the quest rewards you're given early on, means you can quite easily play for a few hours before having to stop because you've run out of resources.
The start consists of 2 main areas of construction, your estate and your neighborhood. Your estate is your private area where you host the majority of your illegal activities such as a private armory and garage. The estate is already occupied with buildings but following the fire, most are destroyed and require certain conditions to be met in order to rebuild them. The estate area is pretty cool as it doesn't take long for you to turn a burnt out derelict hole into a fortified position for all your VAT free goods. It's also the area where you can research various upgrades and features, such as being able to increase resource gain per hour and building or training speed.
Your neighborhood is the front for all of your activities, the building system is a little different as you get freedom of choice placing certain buildings. This is where you build your restaurants, apartments and hideouts for your troops. Each building and upgrade adds to your respect level, which is the main objective of the game as increasing respect adds more options for practically ever area of the game. As you level you also gain access to ready constructed buildings such as The Fleming Theater and the iconic Fat Cat Club. These buildings add for one of the most unique browser aspects of The Godfather Five Families, cash income. Most browser-based RTS games reward you with the same resources whether you're offline or playing, but The Godfather Five Families allows active players to collect cash at certain time intervals from various buildings. This means that players who actually put playtime into the game will have quite the advantage over those that only log in for a few minutes a day.
The combat and questing systems are pretty similar to other games of this type. Questing is simple and quick, objective based and easily completable. The majority of quests suggest that you construct a certain building, train a specific type of gangster or research a particular subject. You don't have to actually collect these quests in order to complete them, if you've already completed the objective before, you're rewarded as soon as the quest is available. This allows the quest system to work in 2 ways, the first being a tutorial for new players that want to follow the quests exactly, meaning they have access to all the right resources and construct the right buildings but it also allows for more knowledgeable players to build in a specific manner, and still get rewarded somewhere down the line. The combat is a simple numbers game, the type and level of your mobsters compared to theirs is generally what influences the outcome, but you can also research various subjects to increase combat ability, as well as looting and purchasing items such as baseball bats and guns to greatly increase the effectiveness of your attack.
As this is a new player experience review, I haven't touched on many of the most appealing features of The Godfather Five Families, including the ability to take over cityscape's, control multiple neighborhoods and work with other players in a crew. The game offers many features I've not even touched on in this review but the start of the game is definitely great fun and would be appealing to anyone that likes browser-based RTS games or other similar titles such as Street Mobster.

i would not recommend this game to anyone, the gameplay is pretty good and it would be a top game but the amount of SERIOUS bugs and flaw in the game and the constant pressure but on players to buy diamonds is ridiculous they have major bugs that have been in the game for months they refuse to do anything about yet they still release new content the company is a joke the game is a joke and imo you would be wise to stay well clear and spend your leasure time elsewhere oh and i forgot to mention in game currency rates are biassed towards american players, uk players get 1$ to the £ after conversion rates meaning they pay far far more i dont know about european rates but ive seen threads on the forum that say the same, if you still want to try the game out then i urge you to check the forums first and see that nearly every single post is about kabams failure.
