Stop Ruining MMO Games With Christmas Crap – Bah Humbug!
The world of the MMO offers us all an escape. A journey into a world of untold imagination and near limitless possibilities. So why on Earth do you want to ruin it with ridiculously over-sized Candy Canes, mutant snowmen and a near endless list of other Christmas crap that sneaks its ugly rear into these apparently unique worlds set in worlds other than our own. You know what I'm talking about. Every year developers attempt to lure holiday players into their MMO of choice with the promise of yuletide wonders and Christmas festivities. Why the hell am I in a game set in a world of dragons, talking trees and scantily clad ladies (Awww Yeah!) only to be greeted by the same holiday garbage I get thrown in my face every time I go to the store for 8 weeks before Christmas? Developers spend years creating these unique worlds. Giving each their own personal twist with characters, environments and commonplace activities that would be nothing short of alien if they stood in our world with us today. Yet when it comes to Christmas, all of these worlds just happen to celebrate the same event in the same way that we do? A few online MMO games brave the waters of the unknown and at least try to conjure unique and interesting takes on the Christmas celebrations, inspired by happenings and characters with the worlds they've created but this is the rarity by a long shot. I know, I know. Bah Humbug right? Well, beat me down with Candy Canes. Have a mutant snowman throw frost covered feces at my face. Have me helping some fat guy in a red suit as I waste my holiday period not with my family and friends but trying to obtain some timed-exclusive drop that becomes nothing more than a cosmetic extension to my e-peen. By the way, I don't participate in holiday events in-case that wasn't clear. Sure, you may be one to enjoy a bit of holiday festivities in your MMO of choice but some of us still yearn for that creative edge that offers something a little different. Will it ever arrive? I doubt it. I'm a self-entitled MMO player that expects the world without a monthly subscription fee or even a one-off purchase price. You can't meet my expectations, you can't stop me complaining and you can't force me to celebrate Christmas in some strange universe otherwise completely detached from our own.... Oh, and Merry Christmas you filthy animals.Leave a comment
