LOVE – Preview
What is love? Love is any number of emotions related to a sense of strong affection and attachment, but in this case LOVE is a one man indie MMO, where you explore a superb world, build and defend settlements and destroy/hack other players settlements.
There are no levels or character creation in LOVE: from the start you enter in the world where you choose what to do and how you can influence the world around you. You can start exploring, fight NPCs and finally start/join/raid settlements.
The graphical direction is unique and it feels like you are in abstract painting and everything seems so stylish that it makes you wish to explore further to see the next incredible view, the next wonderful landscape.
The gameplay revolves around the monoliths, big stone objects which can be used as a central point to build settlements and since there can only be 8 settlements per server, where each server has 200 players, players will have to conquer/destroy one to build theirs, or defend the one they built against players or AI. After a monolith is claimed players will have to explore the world for tokens which can be used to raise buildings and facilities. Each of these can provide abilities, useful tokens, weapons and world editing tools. If you can’t build a settlement you can join a group of players that have one, or look to conquer/destroy one owned by AI or other players.
When you claim a monolith you can manipulate the landscape around it, raise or lower terrain, create caves, and modify the world around as you want. It’s an incredible feature and it will make each settlement unique. While having the freedom to create something to suit your style, you will also provide a surprise for your enemies since they will have to explore a weakness in your settlement for them to destroy it.
On top of all this there is a config tool which can be gained by using tokens with which you control objects from a distance through frequencies, from remote activated bombs to blaster turrets, maps, power buildings, cable relays and other things.
The PVP seems FFA at the start where death has no penalties, you just respawn at the last checkpoint, monolith/checkpoint you are bind to.
If the art direction won’t charm you, the persistent and unique features will definitely make you play this game. I rarely get to see something so unique and innovative on the market so if you are looking for a new game I recommend you try this MMO.
Love recently launched and it costs 10 euros per month. A good new player guide and also hints and tips you can find here: http://www.gaminglove.net/wiki/Love_Wiki
