Kabam Games, developers of popular browser-based MMORPG games such as Thirst of Night and The Godfather Five Families, bring you their latest MMO game, Dragons of Atlantis. Based on the mythical lore of the ancient city of Atlantis, the game is set on a war torn world where the 4 tribes of Atlantis are battling for survival. The victor will walk away with the key for humanities future, and that victory, lies within the Dragons of Atlantis.

Choosing your tribe is the first action you’ll take in Dragons of Atlantis, making your choice from Solerian, Amazon, Zolmec and Primus. Although the obviously overly large assets of the Amazon’s was a tempting offer, I decided to go with the scientific minded Primus for this new player experience review. It appears that free stuff is quickly becoming the standard in today’s MMORPG games and Dragons of Atlantis is no different, after selecting your tribe, you’re given a box that includes a number of premium items and bonuses. This does make the beginning of the game progress at a quicker pace, so in that respect it is a welcomed gift. I was expecting the typical point and click tutorial but Dragons of Atlantis doesn’t really have anything close to a tutorial, players are simply left to their own devices. This obviously has its own pros and cons, I did feel a little bewildered at first but the UI is very basic and it doesn’t take long before you figure out what’s going on.

The game includes the typical questing system for browser RTS games, players simply click the quest tab and are shown all the currently available quests. Quests can be completed in any order, at any time, so players are free to build how they wish, they’ll still get all the starting quest rewards at some point. After you’ve built your first house and a few resource buildings, you’re introduced to the real meat of the game, the dragons. You’re first tasked with constructing a Rookery to be able to move your dragon egg to the dragon keep. After you’ve done this, it’s pretty easy, you can then upgrade your keep, however, in order to get the dragon you need at least 2 level upgrades, which can take about an hour or two on build time and resource gathering. Once you’ve got the dragon it’s just a baby, it can’t offer any fortress defenses or anything so you have to keep leveling it.

Dragons of Atlantis is very similar to other browser based MMORTS games, it has all the resource and unit management features you would expect, various clan and PvP aspects and enough building time to keep you occupied for months. You don’t really get to experience much of the dragon aspect as a new player but it’s still a pretty cool feature and it has a lot of expansion options such as training a specific dragon type or buying a new egg and founding a new settlement. Overall the new player experience drags out a little bit but a player with enough savvy can check the quest log for the best quests in terms of time vs reward.
