Could Monster Hunter Online Put The Wii U Back In The Race?
The Xbox One and Playstation 4 have been quick to pounce on the MMO genre during E3 but there's a third console in the next-generation race that many already consider to be a total fail. Despite the fact the Wii U is yet to release any real titles on their best IP's there's other avenues available to Nintendo's next-gen console. Monster Hunter 3: Ultimate has been credited with the huge surge of Wii U units in the West and the popularity in the franchise continues to grow on a weekly basis. The online feature still sees an impressive number of active daily players and the announcement of Monster Hunter Online was met with nothing but positive comments. With both its competitors boasting an impressive MMO lineup for next-gen, there's two franchises Nintendo has in its arsenal that could blow its competition into orbit. Seeing as the possibility for a Pokemon MMO is next to none, we're left to speculate on Monster Hunter Online. We know its being developed in China and localization tweaking could take over a year, should a Western release be planned. However, if Nintendo were able to retain exclusive rights for the Monster Hunter Online MMO, they could easily compete with the current roster of MMO titles on Xbox One and Playstation 4. People need to be reminded, the next-generation console war is not a 2 horse race. Nintendo have been in the console game for a lot longer than Microsoft and Sony so you can be sure, if there's a niche worth conquering; Nintendo have plans to conquer it.
