Atlantica Online – Preview
Atlantica Online is one of the latest Free MMORPG which arrived to the western market, now in Closed Beta phase. With many free mmorpg available we will try in this preview to analyze what this game brings new on the table, and how are the basic features implemented.
Atlantica Online takes a different approach then the other companies on the combat system for this mmorpg, by using a turn based combat very similar to the one used in the Final Fantasy series. While you advance through the game you recruit NPC mercenaries that will fight for you and you can choose from seven classes, from melee classes to the healers, and ranged classes. You have complete control over these mercenaries, you can equip them with weapons and armors, and other items, they have special magic attacks, and they also level thus becoming stronger with time.
Beside the combat system, we have most of the features a decent mmorpg has (or should have), from chat system to decent crafting system, friend system, quests are ok, not much of story of WOW, but they are decent, enchant system where you can enchant your weapons and armor, no auction house unfortunately but there is a system where you can search for items which other players personal stores are selling.
Another interesting approach is the world, where you adventure in fantasy theme in real places like Korea, Japan, North America, where cities reflect the culture of the territory you are visiting. Based on this there is a system where guilds can control villages, the taxes, and what buildings can be built in the towns. The system is interesting, a system where guilds can acquire town by having a minimum of 1000 Guild Points which are gained when guild members craft, lvl, and complete Guild Quests.
I am not usually easily impressed with free mmorpgs from the Asian market these days, but this one even in close beta, seems like a good product, when i saw that many features are available and working by now, and most of them are very well done, and also the game has even a Tome of Knowledge, where you can find out information about anything, from NPC, quests, items, monster you killed, crafting recipes information, a very good feature that all games should have, I was impressed. So in the end Atlantic Online looks promising in terms of features, gameplay and graphics, and if it continues like this, I recommend this game to all the people that love free mmorpgs and turn based combat.
