Blizzard Not Interested In World Of Warcraft Free-To-Play
It has been announced that Blizzard is now making less money on World of Warcraft Subscriptions than ever before, with their subscription numbers dropping dramatically over the last few months – an estimated 100,000.
Despite this huge drop in revenue (approximately $111,000,000 since the start of 2013), one of the spokesmen for Blizzard has stated that they are not planning on dropping the monthly fee to play. Instead of this, there has been various campaigns to try and recruit new members. You may remember the TV adverts in the past with such stars as Mr T, where they offered free trials. They later brought in an “invite a friend” scheme, followed by special offers for people who previously played World of Warcraft to come back and would be given special items and XP bonuses. The latest initiative to bring people in is the new starter pack, which allows players to play for free for the first 20 levels. Despite all this, the popularity of the game has dropped considerably, despite the expansions. This may be due to all the new and popular MMORPG games that have been released over the last year.
The announcement of the next big expansion “Warloards of Draenor” was made recently – hopefully this may see a turn around for the now less-popular game.
