Why Smite Is Better Than League Of Legends
I’ve been a big fan of MOBA games since the League of Legends released but as time went by I found myself tiring of the MOBA giant. Since then I’ve dabbled in a variety of other MOBA games but it wasn’t until I played SMITE that I realized I’d found a new online home. For those of you not aware, SMITE is a third-person MOBA title that combines the mechanics and features of the genre with the precision and skill-based combat of third-person shooter games. Unlike League and other popular MOBA games practically every single ability is a skillshot that can be missed.
That leads me to my first reason why I feel SMITE is better than League of Legends, the skill. I’m not denying that League takes a lot of skill and I’d even admit that the skill level is on par with SMITE; however it’s a different type of an individuals ability. The third-person perspective of SMITE is far more common and recognizable to players, over that of the typical isometric views. So although the skill levels of each game may be on par, the fact more average players are comfortable with the view in SMITE suggests to me that the average player would pose more of a challenge than say a new LoL player would.
My second reason for preferring SMITE is the animations; they are simply hands-down better than League of Legends. Poseidon calls forth the Kraken, Apollo rides the skies in his Chariot of Fire and Thor takes to the skies before launching himself onto enemy Gods, all of these would be impossible in the engine used in League of Legends. Not only does SMITE boast far superior graphics but there has been much more time and dedication put into each individual animation.
And my final reason for giving SMITE the top spot is the background lore and story of the characters. Don’t get me wrong, Riot Games have done an excellent job of inventing their own universe and background stories, but there’s a reason the stories of God’s of old have stood the test of time, they’re epic. The story of Hercules slaying his own children before becoming a hero of the God’s, the awe of Ragnarok as Fenrir and Odin fought to the death, these stories have been around for hundreds of years and it’s not hard to see why.
So there you have it. That is why I consider SMITE to be better than League of Legends. Do you agree? Do you disagree? Leave a comment below.

Biased, Tera is the best
Umm? What?
There`s a lot more reasons. the first one is Ymir. xD second, you don`t need to last hit a minion to get xp AND gold, wich means that a support won`t be left far behind because the carry last hits every single minion. then there’s the customizable recommended items, that only now lol is applying. the third person view gives a lot less map awareness, but it feels easier and smoother to play. did i mention Ymir?
Smite’s 3rd person view may propose more of a challenge as it offers less sight and ganks and far more hard to see coming. And a big advantage would be the passive gold and exp, if you’re getting zoned out, its not like you’re getting nothing. My last reason: You don’t have to use your item space to keep consumable, they have their own spot, so the support doesn’t have to keep an empty spot in their build to keep wards.
I’ve read your article and I have a few things to say, as a guy who played smite, and (Still playing) LoL:
First, I’m really happy of where HiRez is taking Smite and they are doing a good job. Most of their features were coming from League though.. But they manage to make it more original and add features of their own. And that’s how League started too: Back in the Alpha/Closed Beta days, camps were based off Dota (Order camp, and Chaos camp with Order and Chaos towers) and Deny was available for the first few days of the the Closed Beta- I’m just saying this to prove that I’m not against Smite, and Riot tried to copy.
Second, the whole animations thing: Most of League’s champs were made before Season 3, the time when (I at least think) Riot got better design styles (Mostly with animations, models, etc), and there are MANY champions that looks AWFUL, but are worked on by Riot. So just remember, League was made before Smite, by less number of people (I think).
And lastly, the Lore- League have such amazing and original Lore.. I love it so much. But Smite.. I mean HiRez doesn’t need to think of much about the lore, just how to design their gods by it. Not that I don’t love the Gods’ lores, it’s just I don’t think that HiRez need to be creative about the lore, because they got it ready (Unless they change it).
Sorry if I made people hate me, sorry if I sound pathetic, just saying my opinion..
GiantDwarf You’re incorrect, Smite has chosen gods SPECIFICALLY for those stories, it doesn’t even matter how creative they were, the fact that they have gods and the game contains that quality matters more than the “skills” of the developers.
Smite seems to be a great game. I look forward to playing it, but from what I see so far (all of dem youtube videos and all that research!! :3), it doesn’t have the same impact as League does for me. Sure, the graphics are great and the controls seem comfortable, but I don’t see enough strategy usage in it (I guess it was made to be more action-packed though xP). About the lore and gods/champions, League’s is certainly difficult to match up to. Maybe the gods WERE specifically chosen to match each-others’ lores, but LoL has made their champions specific to their own world of Runeterra. The amount of work put into the lores of Smite’s gods has probably took a lot of time and hard work, but they have stories to base them on already, while Riot Games comes up with their own (sometimes referenced to popular video games) lores.
Eeeeeeeeeeeeeither way.
I’m still looking forward to playing it, just not expecting to like it all that much
I played lol for like 3 months and hated it. I played smite for 2 day and I’m hooked. I’m a battlefield player for the most part so this is the perfect bridge for me. I still have the precision of an fps and the careful planning of items of an RPG. I dig it. Lol is just fuckikg boring anyways and isn’t very welcoming to new players where as the smite community seems much more nice to people for making mistakes. Not that I do. Just went 20-4 with Artemis yesterday.
