Darkfall Online Announces New Siege Mechanics
In a recent announcement from Community Developer Tasos, details emerged of a new siege mechanic update hoping to cure the plague of ailments that have hit Darkfall Online‘s PvP system since its launch last year.
Follow by many over its 10+ year development cycle, Darkfall Online promised an open world, sandbox experience unparalleled to anything gamers had seen before. Sadly the game failed to deliver at launch with huge delays in players being able to buy the game as well as a large number of game breaking mechanics issues.
The siege system itself has been open to abuse from day one, with one man clans able to declare war whenever they pleased against whomever they please, causing chaos and disruption for no reason other than to grief bigger clans.
This left the PvP system stale and unused for the most part with the majority of PvP action being in the form of mindless “newbie ganking”. In this recent announcement the developers made it clear that they’re listening to the feedback from the community and will soon be releasing and update to “relaunch” Darkfall Online.
The siege mechanics update will introduce a real cost to declaring war, avoiding the typical 1 man siege seen today, and also restrict the ability to declare war on a random clan. The new system will force clans and players to actually consider the consequences of declaring war compared to the current system where there is little to no punishment for doing so.
The announcement didn’t include an official release date for the new update but rumours circulating the forums suggest we can expect to see the latest patch released towards the end of August.
