Warframe Community Up In Arms Over Possible PWE Aquisition
According to a recent document discovered on Sumpo the developer of critically acclaimed free-to-play online third-person MMO Warframe, Digital Extremes, could soon see an acquisition from free-to-play MMO portal giants, Perfect World Entertainment. The document states that all of the companies involved entered "non-binding term sheet" and the end of last month and now final checks are being performed over the affairs of Digital Extremes. In lamers terms, both companies appear to have agreed to the acquisition pending find investigations. The Warframe community have expressed their concern surrounding Perfect World Entertainment's infamous micro-transaction models across its games, often being accused of being a pay-to-win publisher."You may have read something about the business development side of Digital Extremes and it may have you concerned," Digital Extremes Video Game Director Steve Sinclair said on the game's forums. "For legal reasons, we can't disclose specifics but if you know the history of Warframe you'd know that we are intent on having Warframe's design remain in the hands of Digital Extremes. Yes, opportunities will arise for us but the game itself is and will remain a labor of love."Warframe has been a huge success on the PC and PlayStation 4, and the same is expected for the upcoming Xbox One release but will that success continue under PWE?
