SMITE Is The Perfect MOBA To Captivate Console Audience
Firstly let me prefix this article by stating an obvious truth, I'm a bit of a SMITE fan boy. I've been enjoying the game since the earliest stages of closed beta and have made no attempts at hiding my obvious fan boyism's but I think even those more enveloped in other MOBA communities can see the massive potential for SMITE to break into the console industry. SMITE is the perfect MOBA to introduce console gamers to the primarily PC-based genre and if you give me a few moments of your time, I'll explain why. One of the biggest supporting elements for SMITE releasing on console is the same thing that sets it apart from other PC based MOBA games, the third-person perspective. Practically every other popular MOBA released thus far features the isometric perspective. Although there are pros and cons to both approaches, the third-person view is a much more familiar standpoint for most console gamers. With the exception of the RTS genre very few console titles have embraced the isometric view - note that I'm intentionally avoiding the mentioning of a certain console MOBA title based on a famous IP that was a total utter flop. One of the most common gripes with the current MOBA games is that isometric restriction. Instead of leading players to feel immersed in the experience it leaves somewhat of a gap between player and game, a gap that's perfect for the incredible levels of strategy and tactics involved, but it's not a necessary sacrifice. The third-person perspective does make the game feel a little more personal so I can understand a slight disconnection with team mates compared to the likes of League, but it's that deeper connection to personal achievement and satisfaction that will captivate console audiences so easily. The third-person perspective also means the game is ready for controller support out of the box. The controls would easily translate from PC to console and a number of users have already adopted the controller for the PC version, with many having a surprising level of success. SMITE is quickly becoming one of the biggest MOBA games on the scene. Over 51 God's are available to play and master. Multiple modes and new Match of the Day modes ensure entertainment of an incredible variety. The developers have also shown their experience in the MMO genre with one of the most incredibly beta journey's in history. Hi-Rez Studios have completely redesigned and released a number of Gods. Made drastic changes to the maps available in-game, including completely revamped features, sound effects and textures. And they've even pushed the game to the forefront of the eSports scene. We haven't heard anything official regarding a SMITE launch on consoles but I cannot see any real reason why neither Xbox One or PlayStation shouldn't pick it up. It's already hugely popular on the PC platform, the eSports scene just continues to enjoy a roll down popularity hill and console fans would relish a competitive title that isn't an FPS.
